Balance and Sacrifices
Monday, August 18, 2014 | 8:27 PM | 3 comments

School, work, family, friends and love life... It just feels like I've too many things on my plate and there's no way I can pick one without neglecting another. It's tough because you know that whatever you choose to prioritise, there'd always be at least one person who would tell you otherwise.

For example, when I hang out too much with my friends, I may tend to forsake my education, and when I channel all my energy to my studies and work life, I feel like it's impossible to step into a relationship. Also, commitment to a relationship naturally means that I'll spend lesser time left for my family.

You know what's the biggest problem? It's wanting to perform well in everything you choose to do. I'm an extremist and if I want to do something, I'd put my heart and soul to it; It's pretty pointless to do something half-heartedly. Which is why one of the things I find really hard to cope with as I grow older, is actually finding a balance in life.

In life, you either give up, give in or give it your all. Right?

What should you sacrifice and what should you keep close to you?

-

Currently in my life, I'm going through this huge crisis on how to separate my time properly and to make the right choices. It's extremely hard though.

School sucks all my time up - So during my break, I'd either be doing my work or catching up on the sleep I've been missing up on. By then all my energy is drained, which makes things so much more difficult cause I have to decide how I want to allocate that minimal amount of time left. To watch my favourite tv series, to read the crazy amount of books I bought (which I left to collect dust), to have a meal with my family, to go shopping or to spend it with my love ones.

HOW DO I DECIDE?!

I feel unhappy sometimes because everyone expects something out of me, and it's really impossible to please everyone. What everyone does is to demand, demand and complain that you're not doing ENOUGH, but never have they considered what you've ALREADY DONE for them.

Eventually, the things you love become the things you dread doing. Your passion turns into a chore. Even if I gave you $50 to study the subject you hate most in school, it just becomes a motivation, but you'll not do it with utmost sincerity. On the other hand, if I gave you $50 to stop doing what you love, you'd rather not accept my money.

It's tiring and I have no idea how I'm gonna have a balance in my life. I've too many things I wanna prioritise, and it's tough to make a sacrifice.

Every morning, I just wake up feeling like I owe everyone an explanation for the decisions I make. And as easy as it is to just say, "Just lead your life the way you want, you don't owe anyone an explanation" it's not the same when you've to apply this to the people you care for and the people who care for you.

I've never been this bothered about something before, cause it seems like no one ever tries to stand in my position to understand how I feel.

I'd like to say that I've a solution to this, but fact is I don't. I'm still trying, but it's hard if nobody's willing compromise. Life is all about making the right choices, but what if you don't know what's the right decision to make?

What's worse is when you know someone or something's not the best choice, but it's all that you ever wanted.

Everyone judges the choices you make, but no one ever considers the reasons behind why you decide to choose a certain path.

What would you do if it's you? To follow your mind, or to follow what your heart says?

The problem with being a "BLOGGER" today
Tuesday, July 29, 2014 | 7:53 PM | 5 comments

I know there has been a lot of drama happening recently, and this entire thing is extremely immature and has put bloggers in a really BAD LIGHT.

It got me thinking what does being a blogger even mean nowadays.

Blogger - At this rate, everyone can be a blogger... Oh wait, or should I say, everyone wants to be a blogger? Create an account, start up a blog, *BAM* you're officially self-titled a BLOGGER. #Boogerplease

Bloggers today aren't what they used to be.

I can safely say that at least 80% of the population in Singapore have this rather huge misconception that bloggers are all about taking nice OOTDs, posting superficial stuff, writing reviews and having a substantial amount of followers, getting sponsored from head to toe, bed to car. Yes, this are what bloggers do, and I things I won't deny doing as well. But IT FUCKING TAKES MORE THAN JUST THAT in order to sustain in such a competitive environment.

I've been blogging for the last 6 years, since 2008. Starting a blog with the idea in mind that I wanted to share my opinions with everyone. Never have I chose this path in hope of getting "chio" sponsored stuff, or thinking that this is the easy way out to success or fame. I was just lucky enough to have my first ever engagement in late 2011, and that was when I began blogging professionally. FYI, that means that I receive a stable income from it, and I regard it as a full-time job in all seriousness.

1) Self-proclaimed titles

It gives me goosebumps when I'm named "Superstar" or "Celebrity."

I'm not even kidding, but this irks me real bad. Whenever my peers or readers call me that, never once have I felt that I was eligible for that title. There was this one time, I was waiting for the lift at Cineleisure and a group of readers/followers approached me to ask me for a photo, that followed by a couple of tourists asking if I were a celebrity, and all I did was shook my head with diffidence and smiled with ignominy.

Of course, it'd be an honour to be addressed as one, but that should never be something one claims to be.

You can call yourself ANYTHING but whether you are OR NOT is a whole other thing.

You can have a friend with a very nice camera take a nice OOTDs for you, and add a watermark stating "photography" after their name in the picture, but that alone doesn't make you a model.

I may not be the highest-ranking blogger in SG, but I've put in years of effort to be able to get to where I am today, and I'm definitely still NOT THE BEST. Being a blogger used to be something special to me. I used to have people coming up to me telling me how capable I am to be making more money and to have considerably high amount of followers on all my social platforms, than the people my age.

Nowadays, it's so different, we get 10 year olds who would label themselves as a blogger from owning a blog and people who think they are "the shit" from the followers they BOUGHT.

2) Professional blogger vs. "BLOGGER"

Yes indeed, as a professional blogger, I won't deny that high-paying bloggers earn much more than most freshly graduates, but just because we don't go through the "hard way" (get a proper job that requires me to work for 9 hours a day) of earning money, it doesn't mean that whatever we do is easy.

I'm not sure about the others who blog for a living, but personally, I've been juggling between school and my career for the past 3 years.

It matters to me to write well
It matters to me to come up with content that my readers can relate to
It matters to me to be consistent and that I will never be complacent even when I'm on a roll
It matters to me that I do not succumb to the norms of society, and narrow-minded haters that expect me to cater to their likes and dislikes
It matters to me that I do not deceive my viewers by advertising things that even I don't believe in, just because I was paid to do so
If these things do not matter to you, then you should question yourself if you're really cutout to be a blogger.

Yes, I could easily list a zillion perks of being a well-known blogger, such as - Getting recognised; C'mon it's a good feeling to have people coming up to you, making you feel you're so fucking famous. So don't bull and tell me you hate the fame or attention cos you know you're lying to yourself. And if you really hate it so much then shut down your blog and write everything in a god damn diary.

Even 1/2k followers for a "blogger" is considered high compared to an average person and some boast to their friends just to feed their ego.

Honestly, do you really think you're that cool? Cos even I don't think I'm cool, I can afford shampoo, I can afford my own clothes. There's nothing to show off about, nothing to rave on your blog all day long on how you've been sponsored this and sponsored that, if that's really all you have to say.

Yes I do get sponsors, and blog about them, but that's not the only thing that I'm concerned with and talk about.

3) Success comes to those who earn it.

It's no secret that people can rise to fame overnight. Some try extremely hard to, perhaps by starting some little drama because of their little insecurities or doing nonsensical stuff. Soon, they become the talk of the town, they trend for awhile, but whatever it is, it doesn't last. All these come and go. Even if you're good looking, as long as you don't have a strong opinion and you're following blindly with the crowd, nobody will keep up with you for long.

In time to come, you'd die off and be replaced. There will always be another you that will come along.

To be irreplaceable, one has always gotta be different.

I've seen people who worked hard for the things they are passionate about, even when they hit rock bottom, they never fail to stand up strong. These are the people that I look up to and whom I feel we should all respect. There are still people like these who exist today, and no doubt, some of them have gained the success they've earned. I'm not saying this to convince you that I'm one of these people, but I just want you to know that that group of bloggers still exist, and if you wanna "worship" them, make sure you choose the right one to love blindly.

What do you know about me?
Sunday, July 13, 2014 | 5:00 PM | 4 comments

You told me you miss the old me, but I feel that I'm still the person I used to be. Everyone said it's for the fame, only true friends would know I'm still the same.

I'm someone who does a lot of self reflection, too much that I sometimes wonder if I'm actually normal. Anyway, the point is, I take constructive comments to heart, especially from people who matter. I feel the need to live up to people's expectations and it's sucks, because there are always different people who prefer a different side of me.

And one of the easiest, and most misused phrase people use when you're not acting the way they expect of you? "You've changed."

Before I go on to the focus of today's post, here's something I'd like to share...

Many are clueless of how I really am in person, bcos they tend to have a fixed mindset that I'm the same person behind the screen/camera and in person. I understand that it's an ineluctable fact that, it's normal, and it happens. It's like how many people who I get to meet face to face, are usually quite different compared to how I pictured them to be, based on my first impression of them online.

Why's that so? Cos majority of us tend to express ourselves in a more forthright manner behind the computer. We perceive, that it's okay to say particular things (most commonly, distasteful remarks) to some people, obviously having the thought in mind that, the odds of ever bumping into them in real life is pretty low.

On the other hand, are public figures who feel like they've to put up a false front on the internet, due to the number of people who follow up on their lives, but honestly, they are all just human beings at the end of the day; and no matter how glamorous they are on screen, they have their human side.

In other words, we are more DARING, we shed our pretence, and act more hastily on most occasions, when we do or say something on the internet.

Take a moment and think about this for instance; which takes lesser courage and effort? Expressing your deepest feelings to someone you really love/hate via various means of technology, or saying it to their face? Personally, I think the second one's way easier.

That being said, I feel like I've split personalities at times, or should I say, we all have a dark side?

I'm not trying to convince you that I'm better in person, cos at the end of the day, there's only one me, and I still take control of whatever I do. What I'm asking is, do you think you really know me?

-

1) Becoming more liberal

Many said that I became so attention seeking, and that I'm no longer the sweet and innocent girl they knew me as, because of the revealing photos I post online these days.

a) I AM ATTENTION SEEKING, I won't deny it.

I've said this a million times, and I'll say it again - Passion can be one of the reasons, but enjoying the glory of what comes with fame is inevitable. I believe there isn't a single online personality who doesn't enjoy the attention they receive. Even so, I feel that there's nothing wrong with that, as long as at the end of the day you continue to stay true to yourself in whatever you do. If joking at the expense of someone else or hurting someone (for example) is your way of attaining your desired attention, then that's wrong.

As for the pictures I post online - I post them cos I genuinely like them. You know how sometimes you take a photo you really like, and even if you're not the best looking, fittest person on earth, you just wish to post it? Yes, that's exactly how I feel. As simple as that.

If I need to actually back up whatever I've just said, then as a matter of fact, I actually get more likes in photos where I'm not revealing anything than the ones I actually do. So, if you think that I'm showing skin just so I could garner more likes, your point is pretty much INVALID. And, if you think about it, 90% of the time, when I post such pictures, I get more negative comments than positive. Hence, there's no reason for me to do it just to get myself into a pile of shit right?

Anyway, as long as I like the picture, I really don't give a damn whether you like it or not, and I'd rather you unfollow me than to upset yourself. :D

I'd also like to mention that, I probably only take such photos once in a blue moon, so why the big hoo-ha every time I do so?

2) Yes I've changed, but for the better.

I used to rebel a lot in school, I defied my parents all the time, I lied a lot, I mixed with bad company, I partied a lot, I ran away from home, I had counselling for almost one entire year, I skipped classes, I broke a lot of my school rules and I was self-centred and rather narcissistic.

I was hell childish, impulsive and insensitive, but I actually used to care way more about how people looked at me, compared to today.

As I grow older, I took a lot of things more seriously, in terms of school, career and relationships. And I've also learnt to care a lot more about the people who truly care for me, like my parents.

In secondary school, I was always the top few... Yeah, from the back. My studies were like shit, and I showed no respect to the teachers in school, but I've changed.

I topped the class twice over the last two semesters in school, because I've devoted all my time into studying. I wanted to score really well so that, even though my parents could afford my school fees, I could receive a grant from my school so they wouldn't have to worry about me. Which, I did.

Whenever I'm free, I'd probably spend my leisure time blogging to earn me extra cash, and probably post some pictures or videos once in awhile.

My life is that simple now. I hardly even do those things I used to do in the past anymore.

I don't mean to sound like I'm trying really hard to defend myself, but if you really knew me, then tell me how would I have changed for the worse? If becoming more open is what you people deem to be a BAD behaviour, when I'm not even doing drugs or committing any crime, then that's tragic. Instead of spending time telling me how I should put on more clothes, I believe there are more people out there who deserve such unconditional attention you could offer.

Don't hate me just cos I'm doing something out of YOUR comfort zone.

For example, many traditional people do not encourage premarital sex, but many are open to the idea. So just cos someone is more conservative, and doesn't feel comfortable with it, it doesn't mean that they've to despise and hate people who are. Vice versa.

Anyway, this leads on to my next point.

3)  Don't say I'm not the same, if you never knew me.

Yes, I grew up, and if there's one bad thing I've changed about - Is that I don't care as much about how people look at me, compared to the past.

I used to reply all my haters, I used to get x10 more worked up, but I barely even entertain them now. Of course, I still care, but just not as much. If you think it's really easy, try being in my position for a day. Would you have been able to cope with all the hate if you were me? I receive an average of 50 hate comments a day, but I only write a post like this, to my haters probably once or twice a year.

Many of you think that I'm cocky, cos instead of taking the time to show love to the people who support me, I chose to focus on my haters. Rubbish, absolutely rubbish.

Firstly, unless I'm really busy that day and don't have the time to check my phone, I'd ALWAYS make the effort to reply my tweets and comments. C'mon, how many people actually do that? Even with 5 comments, some people find it a chore to reply, but I actually take the effort to reply more than 10 a day. And you say I'm stuck up?

I created an account, just so that people could talk to me if they needed someone to confide in, I have to squeeze time out just to do so, and you say that I don't care about my supporters?

I admit, 10 compliments can never impact me as much as one hate comment, and by writing this, I'm just giving my haters the attention they crave for, but despite how grateful and loved I feel from my supporters, I can never completely ignore the hate I receive.

You think it's easy, but unless you face the same shit I've been facing for the past 6 years, you won't tell me it's easy. COS IT'S TOUGH AS HELL TO IGNORE IT.

It's like I can tell a skinny person she's fat, and she may not believe it the first time, but if I say that to her everyday, I'm sure she'd start to wonder if she really is.

Let me explain why I tend to focus more on my hate comments instead of all the really sweet compliments.

I've never looked at myself and felt like I was as good as what my lovers think, and as appreciative as I am towards my readers, when someone tells me, "You're so gorgeous!" I really have no idea what to reply. Fact is, I don't think I am gorgeous but if I said that, people will start calling me insensitive for making these girls feel bad about themselves, or say that I'm trying to act humble. Hence, most of the time, I'd just thank them. On a side note, how many times can one actually write a "thank you post" before coming off as insincere? I'd rather prove it through my actions if I wish to show gratitude towards my supporters.

However, one hate comment would raise my hackles, cos I'm just so indignant at how some hate comments are just so irrelevant, rude and sometimes, stupid.

Such as:
Person A: "Just saw Naomi Neo at XXX and she's so fucking ugly and short, doesn't even look like her photos! - Something like this doesn't piss me off at all, not cos I feel like I'm really good looking or anything, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion. And if you think I'm ugly, so be it.
Person B: "Naomi Neo's such a bimbo." This actually amuses me, cos half the time, the people who say something like this are usually people who are way dumber than I am, and I can't tell if it's an insult or not, cos being a bimbo would then mean that you actually think I'm pretty."
Person C: "You should probably die, bet your parents aren't proud of having you as well." THIS RILES ME UP. Not cos I actually believe in whatever this person says, but it's really rude and uncalled for. What if I was so affected and killed myself for this one comment cos of your callous disregard for someone else's feelings? Oh boy, I bet you'd wish you thought twice before saying something like this.
It came to a point where, whatever I do people just hate me. So instead of doing what I hate, and trying to please people... I'd rather do what I'm comfortable with. Is that wrong?

For example, I've started to voice out how I feel when I'm unhappy about something, but I would've never dared to do so 3 years ago. Thing is, if I don't stand up for myself, who would? I find the need to explain myself, bcos I hate being wrongly accused. Yes I've changed, and became more open about my views... What's wrong with that?

I've always been bullied and pushed around by the people around me, due to how submissive I used to be. I'd never say no, or reject people bcos I feel obligated to help them, and then they;d start pushing their luck and they'll make me do everything for them. I'd always allow others to say things about me and not retaliate even if what they said were all false accusations, cos I was afraid to speak up. Friends who did shit to me continued to hurt me over and over again, just cos I always forgive them.

And once I stop doing what I usually do, everyone tells me I've changed.

However, have you spared a moment to think about why I've actually changed and what changed me?

In the end, everyone around me continued to be happy, while I was just sick and tired of the life I was leading. The last two years were the toughest for me, I was really depressed most of the time... You don't have to be close to me to know how "emo" I was, I bet you could tell just by looking at the things I used to tweet. I felt like I had nobody to truly count on, I felt like people hated me, and friends secretly do as well.

It wasn't until this year, where some life-changing events took place, when someone special came into my life and made me realised there are actually a lot more things to stay positive about. I'm pretty pessimistic by nature, and small things can take a whole lot of me, but bcos of this person, I changed and became way happier than I was before.

Some love the change in me, especially my parents, cos they feel like I've matured a lot more, and have started to become more responsible in life. My plans and goals for the future are no longer fogged and I know what I want now. On the contrary, some hate this change cos they feel that I'm way too open, but I'd rather focus on the things that are worth focusing on.

If you don't like my change, I'm sorry but you might just have to just suck it up and deal with it, cos my purpose of existing is not to make you happy anyway.

And this is for you.

Learn how to be more considerate!
Sunday, July 6, 2014 | 3:31 PM | 0 comments

Whenever I see a huge group sitting at the hawker center, I can only imagine what a chore it would be to the cleaning auntie or uncle. But surprisingly, most of the cleaning personnel will always carry on with their jobs with a smile across their faces. I wonder how often they receive a thank you, a smile or a helping hand from a patron to reduce the table’s mess.

It is very simple to be ignorant to our very own surroundings. Little do we know, we might just be adding more work to someone’s hard and tiring day. Something somewhat minor such as dropping a tissue paper onto the ground may seem harmless – but what if everyone did it too? It would lead to an even bigger mess, which means extra work for the cleaning workers. If people don’t take the initiative to help out even just a bit, the mess will just keep on compiling.

Above that, there are always unappreciative scumbags around, who take these cleaners for granted, and EXPECT them to clean up whatever crap the previous customer left behind IMMEDIATELY, or those who say if they clean up after themselves, cleaners won’t have a job. It's maddening and blinding to witness such a situation.

-

I have a huge guilty conscience – I need to at least finish up the food on my plate, and after I’m done, I would try to arrange the plates and cutleries in a manner where it would be so much easier for the cleaning uncles and aunties to clean up. And plus, nobody wants to touch a stranger’s leftovers even though it’s just food.. But it still looks disgusting for some reason. I’m just afraid that if we leave a big enough mess, it will take time for the cleaner to clean it up, and while they clean up, maybe another table is messy and full of leftovers as well. These leftovers while unattended will of course be a free buffet to all the pesky pests lurking within the vicinity. And have I mentioned that I truly hate COCKROACHES LIKE EEWWWW?!?!?!

Everyone should pick up this new habit where upon putting their food on the table, eat it along with the tray, so that once they are done eating it, they could simply go to the nearest tray returning area and dispose their leftovers. It would take up about 20 seconds and a few muscle movements to do so. And I know for a fact that the cleaning uncles and aunties would definitely appreciate it deeply. Just be reminded that the cleaners are humans too and they certainly have feelings too.

I understand spilling and dirtying the table could be rather inevitable, especially if you're eating something with crumbs or sauces, but take a look at this. Not only is it repulsive, it makes my tummy churn just by the look of it!!!

What if you were made to clean this up? Let's be honest, I believe at least 80% of the people wouldn't be brave enough to do so, especially if you weren't the one who consumed the food. Yet, these cleaners have to endure the stench and dirt, just so that people like us, could enjoy our meal.

Our cleaners are also one of the lowest paid workers in Singapore, because premise owners tend to pick the cheapest cleaning company, forcing cleaners’ salaries down (sometimes even with pay cut)!

It took years of lobbying by the National Trades Union Congress to get these cleaners legally entitled to a Progressive Wage Model from 1 September 2014, where cleaning companies have to plan a career path for their cleaners, or lose their business licence.

Instead of being stuck at one job role at the same low pay their entire lives, cleaners will get opportunities to upskill, raise their productivity and climb up a proper career ladder, with the lowest pay starting from $1000 a month (most cleaners get $800+ a month now).

To those who keep on asking for minimum wage, isn’t Progressive Wage a better option, unless you wish your cleaner to always be stuck at minimum wage for life?

As customers, doing our part to keep litter to a minimum is easy, but it does take vigilance. Deep down, we all know that part of keeping the environment clean has to be contributed on our end as well. There are only so many cleaners, if we don't help them out, eventually, we would all have to suffer from the repercussions, and live in a filthy environment.

At the end of the day, we’re all living in the same country. I just hope for more people to be aware of the hard working cleaners cleaning up after us almost everyday, and understand more about their situation before judging or taking advantage of them. They have a job to do, so the least we could do is help lighten their workload, and share a couple of smiles here and there to cheer them up. A happy cleaner will lead to a happier and cleaner place.

Breaking point.
Monday, May 19, 2014 | 3:53 AM | 59 comments

Dear diary, or in this case, blog,

I've tried so hard to be strong, but how strong can one stay when it seems like the whole world is against me, and I'm probably in this alone? How many times can one choose to ignore, when such awful remarks are thrown at me every single day?

My school holiday has just started not long ago, and I was extremely elated at the idea of it, cos I felt like it's one of my most well-deserved break. I've been working my ass off for the first 4 months since the start of the year, and honestly, I'd swear upon my life that it's definitely not easy to juggle both my career, and school life simultaneously.

And just when I thought that I could finally ease my mind off my hectic school life, the very next moment, it feels like I've stepped into living hell.

Every single day since the start of the month, I'd receive an average of 200 tweets/comments from my haters. Sure, it's nothing new. I've been exposed to social media since a really young age, and already had a handful of haters back then. However, I feel like people tend to neglect the fact that I'm still human after all. I still have feelings, I still cry and feel lonely, I still get hurt.

I'm aware that every time I choose to publicise something on the internet, I've to face the repercussions that follow. I'm not saying that I shouldn't have haters, because wherever there's love, there are bound to be hate, but I've never understood what have I ever done to deserve so much hate from people all around the country.

Why does it feel like it's just me? Just me that everyone has to pick on every single day, and just me that everyone's against?

I'm just an eighteen year old, trying to scrape through the woes of my everyday life. Yes, eighteen. I'm still young, but that shouldn't be the reason why I can't have a say in the things I feel strongly for. So much that I've to be hated on for every single thing I do?

Have you ever hated school so much because you feel like you just can't fit in anywhere, and that no one likes you, so staying at home was the only way to make you feel safe? Well, in my case, it feels like I don't even feel secure at home.

Every morning, I wake up with new things these "innovators" come up with, things that I don't even know about myself.

Some say that I am strong, strong for being able to be survive until this day, despite the overwhelming number of people trying to bring me down. I won't deny that I get over things really quickly, and it isn't hard for me to get back up on my feet, because of the burning desire I have to succeed in whatever I'm doing.

I wouldn't blame you haters for your callous disregard for my feelings, because you don't even know me, but since you don't, why do you hate me so badly? So much that you can say things like, "I wish you disappeared from this world."

What have I done to you? Nothing! Over the years, I'm pretty sure I've never done anything to hurt anyone, or at least, to any of the people who have such strong detestation towards me, in order to receive this in return.

I'm filled with bitter indignation at having to face all these undeserving abhorrence this society has against me.

I hardly confide in my friends whenever these problems arise, because I hate making my problems someone else's burden, but on days I do, because I really need to... I just get replies like, "Just ignore," "Cheer up" or sometimes, even short lectures. When all I really need is for someone to tell me that they know who I truly am, and to reassure me that they'll never be wavered by what my haters say.

Yes, I strongly agree that all that the haters want, is to piss me off and to grab my attention, but as dumb as it is to give them what they want, it's really hard to ignore them as well. We all have our own limits.

I did mention that the haters don't matter, and yes, call me ironic or a walking contradiction, but to a certain extent, I DO FEEL IT. Unless you've been in my position before, you've no rights to tell me that I'm overreacting.

From hate comments, to hate accounts, to hate blogs/videos, and most recently, circulating an obnoxious image of a couple in bed. (which people are presuming the girl to be me.)

Quoting from Gossip Girl, "you're no one until you're talked about." Yeah, that seems rather comforting, since I'm probably the talk of the town at this moment.

Question is, do I enjoy it? NO.

But like I've said a zillion times, I wouldn't deny that I love attention, because that's the only way to survive in this industry. And to be successful, you've to be the person people never get sick of talking about. However, friends who know me should be aware that I hate unnecessary attention, so much that I'd take down anything I've posted even if it has garnered (example) a million likes or views. Of course, unless I have to post something which my job requires me to, for advertising/work purposes.

I've mentioned this before, and I'm not afraid to say it again, but I do edit my pictures. Not all the time, but I do. I don't get what's with hate accounts trying to "expose" me, when I already admitted it previously.

Not because I'm extremely insecure about myself, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to look better, even if it's just on the internet, right?

You can say that I'm deceiving the whole world, but haven't you heard that half the things you see online, aren't true? Including the rumours about me that you try to fabricate?

Then again, there are a million people who photoshops their pictures, who don't even disclose that they do, SO WHY DO YOU HAVE TO JUST TARGET ME?! Do I create that much of an impact in some of your lives, that I actually evoke such strong emotions within you people, to be worthy of that much of your time and effort?

Isn't it amazing?

It does hurt me at times, but it goes away as soon as I realise how unworthy of my time these people are, but what bothers me is how unfairly treated I am. Yes, perhaps that's how some people feel towards me as well, that it's unfair how much attention I get even though I'm not the prettiest, hottest, most attractive girl in the country.

But isn't that the point? Sometimes, appearance alone isn't everything.

I've seen people going like, "She's only popular because of her looks, but she's not even that pretty to begin with, so why is she even known? I've seen better girls out there."

Well, fact is, if my physical appearance was really the reason why people know me, then I'm pretty sure I'd have long been replaced, considering the number of better-looking people there are.

Anyway, that's irrelevant. The point is, yeah I do have a choice. To put myself out there, or to just lead a normal life, but it's NOT my choice that people are giving me this attention, so if you say that I got myself into this, fine, but don't blame me for something that's not within my circle of control.

I know it may appear to some of you that I'm focusing too much on my haters, and that I don't appreciate the love I get from people... I do. Once in awhile, I get really sweet messages from my readers that touch my heart, and I've always wanted to meet them in real life to thank them personally if I ever had a chance.

I really do appreciate them, and it's extremely heartwarming whenever I see some of them standing up for me, even though we're complete strangers. And you can tell because I only write such a post to my haters probably once a year or once every few years, however, I do make a constant effort to reply my readers as and when I could.

Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, there are times where I just wanna forgo my whole career I've built up so far over the past few years, but it's because of the people who love me that gives me the motivation to press on. The people who are inspired by the things I say and do, the people who love me for who I am. Obviously, the income I get plays a part as well, after all, it feels good to break free from the support of my parents.

However, it gets so tiring. It never ends. Every time I think that there can't be anything worse, cos whatever's going on is already bad enough, that people are gonna get tired of talking... All of a sudden, something new pops up and creates an even bigger mess.

Most of us have haters, and it's absolutely normal, but even the strongest person have their weakest moment. It's just a matter of whether they choose to show it to the world, or not.

I believe, despite writing this, I'd still have a bunch of heartless creatures telling me that I'm just trying to earn the sympathy of majority or gain more attention. Nope, cos I don't need someone to tell me how pitiful I am now, and to feel sorry for me. Neither is this post all about wallowing in self-pity. I just need to get all these troubles off my chest. As simple as that.

So what if I do a good deed everyday? Does anyone care? Cos all I see now is society hating me for the most superficial things.

You can go on with the allegations. I've said what I wanted to, and if you still find the need to hate me for the hundred and one reasons you persuade yourself with, go ahead. I'm done.

Hypocrisy

If there's anything I hate most, it'd definitely be hypocrisy.

-

I trust people too damn easily. I don't really have much control over it, I just do, and by the time I could discover what a fool I am? It's too late - The damage is done.

Have you been in this position where you think that, "Life is great." And next thing you know? The people you thought (or kinda wish) could have contributed to this statement, decide to f*ck up, making you come to your senses on how your life isn't that perfect after all.

Isn't it funny how when it involves love (romantically or not), you could easily give all that you have without second thoughts, you lie to yourself and believe in lies, do the silliest things for certain people, and cry over the people who worth the least of your tears - And often knowing that it's gonna hurt, we continue to stay, and convince ourselves that we're okay.

I'm so sick of listening to people go all like, "I'll never lie to you." Oh yeah, reminds me of how that's probably the biggest lie one could ever tell.

It can easily take up to years before one's able to gain someone's trust entirely, but it only takes a split second to destroy someone's trust in you.

We all probably already know that, but people still choose to lie.

Coming back to my point about mendacious people.

You know, I'm absolutely cool with people disliking me, or people who don't have my best interests at heart, but don't ever put up a false front and act like you do when you don't at all.

I don't get it? Why pretend to like someone when you don't?

If you're working with someone, and sorta forced to put all personal grudges aside... That, I understand. However, in this case, I'm talking about those people who deliberately get close to you, go the extra mile to make you believe that they truly care, then talk shit behind your back.

Hey, you know what? I'd love to say something to you with utmost sincerity - FUCK YOU.

I would list down every synonym in the dictionary that describes how deceitful you are, but then again, that's probably too few to prove my point.

I'm not sure if I'm more angry or disappointed, or perhaps both - To actually believe that some people actually care for me from the bottom of their heart, to think that I actually mean something to them, and to find out it's just my own wishful thinking... I feel wretched.

All you ever cared for was yourself.

Thoughts at 2 in the morning
Saturday, December 28, 2013 | 2:53 AM | 1 comments

It's funny isn't it? It's such an agonising and tiring cycle, how people only start to care when you give up, how people only care for the people who gives them the least, and forsake those who are always there for us.

Yes, you may think you're the one hurting right now, for being ignored and neglected by the person you care the most about... But have you wondered if are actually hurting someone who's trying so hard to get your attention, but constantly fails to do so too?

Well, I'm saying this from personal experience, I'm not sure if it works the same way for everyone.

I've been feeling like the loneliest person on earth lately, just cos I was pretty much deprived of attention from people I gave the world to.

It's like nobody notices what I do for them, until I stop doing so.

However, after giving it some thought for hours one night, I found it disturbing how I was probably doing the same thing to a lot of people who really wanted to be there for me.

I unintentionally and sub-consciously pushed the people who care for me away and shut them out, and rather waste my tears on people who wouldn't even spare second of their day to give a thought about me.

And that's when I start to wonder, maybe that's why I've been ignored - Because you can never be too nice to people, they'll naturally take you for granted at some point.

I thought to myself - Why? Why are humans built in such a way. I can't comprehend.

Not long after, I deduced that, perhaps it's normal. I won't deny it's still the worst feeling nature has ever created whenever you feel like nobody cares about you nor appreciates your existence, but I realised something else that's way more important...

I'm learning to appreciate everyone around me and to choose the right people to treat the right way.

Like they say, you don't wanna lose the moon while counting the stars.

This isn't the first time I'm actually feeling this down, but it sucks because everything took place over Christmas eve and the actual day itself. I hardly share much about my personal issues online, but I feel desperately in need to share how I feel right now.

I always remind myself that true friends are hard to come by, and especially with my social status... I'm more than grateful to those who are still with me until today. What's the point of having five thousand friends on Facebook, when I probably can't even name 5 people who I could confidently call my true friends.

Disclaimer - As much as I think I'm really pathetic, I'm not writing this in exchange for any of your sympathy, but I honestly can't think of anyone to speak to at the moment... After all, it's Christmas, I'm pretty sure no one would wanna spend this joyous day listening to my rants.

Besides, I hate sharing with people just cos I hate it when they feel obligated to listen. I hate being a burden.

I would never dare to title myself as "the greatest friend" anyone could ever have, but I'd blatantly claim to be when it comes to you.

Sometimes, I ask myself... How forgiving could one ever be? I've no idea who could've accepted you for the things you've done, the same way I did for the past couple of years.

I'm not here to act all magnanimous, neither am I writing this make you feel bad, so I think there isn't a need to talk about the things that happened in depth.

The only thing I have in mind right now is the question, "why?"

I don't understand, why am I still here until today.

Time and again, I convince myself that you've been a really good friend just because you will try your best to be there when I need someone to talk to, and that you're still here despite my status.

It's not my intentions to weigh it all out, but this time I got slapped in the face by the cold, hard truth... Maybe anyone could be there when I need someone to talk to, so after all, what's so special about us?

For years, I hear people like you telling me the same old line, "You mean so much to me, I can't afford to lose you." Oh, really?

What have you done out of utmost sincerity, to make me stay? Do I really mean that much to you, or are you just saying it for the sake of patronising me?

I always tell myself that maybe I'm expecting too much from some people, maybe I'm putting my own standards of how a "good friend" should be, on them.

It's like, I know if it was me, I would do this and that for them, but when they don't... I feel disappointed.

Then again, I don't really think I'm expecting a lot from you. After all the things I've done for you, I've never asked you for anything than a little time and commitment.

I've never mind the fact that you had to share your time between me and your other friends, I'm cool that you can never be able to give me your undivided attention...

But even when you're with me, it feels like you're only physically around, your mind and soul's wandering off.

The worst part is, I've kept mum about it for so long, but this time round... It was my breaking point.

I love you so much that I'd never wanna put you in a position where you'd have suffer the pain of having to pick one out of the both of us, but in my head, it feels like I already have an answer.

I'm not exactly assuming, cos you've proven me right countlessly.
We're so over that phase, there's no need to go all "unfriend you" and shit, but I've came to a point where... I'm starting to question if leaving would make me happier.

I've never wanted to, and I've perpetually told myself to stay bcos of those few reasons, when I probably have a million more on why I should leave.

I'm the kind who'd rather stick with the same old person for years than to find someone new and start all over again, I'm really afraid it might've reached a point where you're irreplaceable.

I don't need your apology. Like I said, I'm not writing this to make you feel bad, but this is how I truly feel.

-

Sometimes, we choose to stay just cos we're so afraid we can't find someone else like that particular person, even though it's killing us alive. However, maybe it's only when you leave, where you realise how much better your life could actually be without them, and be able to find the real you back, just cos you kept trying to change yourself while you're with them.

I'm sorry I don't have many friends, I'm sorry that's why I get easily attached to people I'm close with even though I try my best not to, I'm sorry that's when I'll start to give you my best and hope you'd stay for good, I'm sorry I can't accept it when people I love leave, I'm sorry if I'm not good enough even after all that I've done.

You know, the worst part of feeling upset is perhaps wondering if the other party bothers as much as you do.

This is so devastating.

-

Anyway, from this, you guys can probably conclude that I didn't have a really good Christmas, and therefore have no pictures to share.

I really hope all of you enjoyed yourself though. Love.

P/s I'm talking about two friends here, one in particular... In case it sounded like I was talking about a guy I'm dating or sort.

Times have changed.

Times have changed.

As much as the title speaks for itself most of the time, this post is probably not exactly what you expected it to be. It's more of my perspective on what BGR's like, amongst us teens these days.

I've always wanted to talk about this, but I've never felt this eager to write it until today. It's like this burning urge that perpetually prompts me to do so.

Right, let’s cut to the chase.

.

.

.

Teens today are more likely forced to face sexualised information at every turn compared to what it's like 10 years back.
From TV, media, magazines and peers, sexuality appears to be a popular topic that contributes to our daily conversations. To an extent where so many are starting to disregard their values as the issue on sexuality arises.

It's hard to keep abreast of what's going on nowadays, because of the complexities of our contemporary society. It's all about doing the "in-thing" and being up-to-date now. Traditions and beliefs? How many teens of this century actually bother?

So anyway, what I'd be touching on today would be things like - The expectations on what majority of us have versus what's it's really like in reality and the speed in which people are getting in and out of a relationship.

EXPECTATIONS.

Most common problem? Setting your expectations too high. Not sure if it applies to everything, but expecting too much from someone could easily be one of the most heart-rending problems on earth.

Ever been in a situation where you stayed up all night, just to wait for his/her call, but they didn't call? And it's not because they've forgotten to do so, it's just that you expected them to, but the call never came.

Or a situation where you spent a crazy amount of time and effort to surprise someone, but their response wasn't what you expected?

All these are signs that you're expecting. And as the old saying goes, "The greater the expectation, the bigger the disappointment."

Sad to say, that's probably the case more than half the time. As humans, it's only normal to expect something from someone you've given the world to. Whether you expect them to reciprocate through words or actions, you're still pinning your hopes on them that they'll react the way you want them to.

Girls - We are rather notorious for having this tendency of contradicting what we say. Yeah, it's undeniable that the things we say don't usually reflect how we truly feel.
Guys - Male chauvinists? I guess it's nothing new that guys don't even wanna express how they feel at times, especially when pride and ego comes in the way.

However, there's something we both have in common. Fear.

Through personal experiences and what I've garnered from my peers, I'm aware that sometimes the key factor that acts as a hindrance to "speaking your mind," can simply be due to FEAR.

As a girl, we are more likely to be vulnerable by nature, it's not surprising to know that many of you (sometimes even myself) are fearful of rejection. Of course, it works the same way for some guys.(OK, I can't speak from a guy's pov, but this is what my guy friends shared with me)
For instance - You're expecting the other party to make the first move to text you, but when they don't... You naturally assume it's because they don't bother.
May be the case, but always give them the benefit of doubt - Who knows? Fear might be holding them back.
I mean, I've been lucky (or rather unlucky) to experience both situations before. And I understand that, it's hard not to feel unimportant.
Similarly, I could strongly empathise with how it is to be afraid. Afraid of not receiving a reply, afraid that the reply would be something you might end up being like, "I wish I didn't send that msg!" or a reply that might make you feel worse from what you're already feeling before.
Unfortunately, I feel that the only way to solve this is to stop worrying so much. I live by this thinking, "I'd rather do something I'm dying to do, and fail, than to live with a regret of not even trying." Yes, it sucks! It sucks when you've to face failure despite all the effort you've invested.

However, you'd get over it eventually. Cos you know you've tried. On the contrary, when you don't try at all, because of whatever reason that holds you back... You might have to live with this "What if I actually..." thinking for the rest of your life.
Fact is, worrying too much won't help solve a problem. Anyone could make the first move and the both of you could easily be conversing away. Yet half the time, people expect and worry too much... Who benefits at the end?
 No one.
You'd just end up making yourself feel miserable for the opportunity you've lost.
Don't just sit there and wait for happiness to come knocking on your door. After all, we usually won't cherish the things that come to us easily. If you want it, earn it, do something about it.
Continue allowing your fear to hold you back, and you will NEVER be able to attain what you pine for.
Learn to stop expecting. It's something I've to learn to. It's really tough, but you've to realise that every one of us function differently.
If you love someone, do things for them unconditionally. Of course, for the right person. If that person's just being a douchebag, and takes advantage of you... KICK THEM IN THE FACE. Kidding.
Point is to express how you truly feel. Honesty is the first most crucial step in sustaining a healthy relationship. Every little lie counts.
RELATIONSHIPS.

BGR could easily top the charts for being one of the social ills which is prevalent in this society today.
Before I start, let me share with you a bit on my relationship background.

I've been in and out of several "flirtationships" ((n) – A social situation that comprises more than a friendship, but less than a relationship), but I'd only consider two of them a legit relationship.
Not that I wasn't serious with the rest, but I excluded them only because I felt like it wasn't "real" for either one of us.

I'm really sensitive and sentimental. I'm probably one of the overly-attached girlfriends when I'm in love, and I take really long to forget someone even when it's over.

Sometimes, you can date so many other people only to realise no one's as good as that special someone.

And when I mean good, I don't just mean whether they fit your standards or not. They can be a million times better, but it's funny how you still choose to love that one person.

Love isn't blind. You actually see those flaws, but you choose to accept them.

Love isn't about changing someone. I've been the girl who's always hoping to change the guy I'm with, but if I'm trying to change him, doesn't that prove something?

That maybe I don't really like him for who he really is after all.

Sometimes, you think you love someone only to realise that the only thing you enjoyed was that ambiguous relationship you had with the other party.

That phase is the sweetest.

Anyway, I hate the process of getting out of a relationship, I hate crying myself to sleep for nights, I hate becoming more insecure than before, I hate it when I lose my friends just for someone and when he leaves, I'm left alone. I hate the pain of moving on, I hate watching the other party move on, I hate wishing he's still not over me, I hate wishing there's a chance of us getting back together.

I hate the whole process of learning to trust someone new, I hate how guarded I am towards everyone after every breakup. I really hate going through that sh*t.

So after having to go through it so many times, I learnt to never get into relationships hastily.
That being said, it sickens me how relationships are treated like a game to many people of my age in the recent years.

I definitely not a relationship expert, nor do I claim to know everything about love, but one thing for sure... No matter how many dates I had previously, I've never ever get into a relationship UNTIL I'm really certain of how I feel towards the other party.

The word "love" is badly abused by so many of us - I never understood how "I REALLY LOVE YOU" can come from a person who only gotta know you for a couple of days.

Of course, there is chance that people might indeed fall in love with each other within the first few times of meeting up, but that's not what I'm talking about.

To have a stable relationship, I personally feel that you've to build a really strong foundation. (Unless you're not looking to settle down.) Remember those days where it's always that same old process - From strangers, to acquaintances, to friends and then to lovers?

Seems like that's no longer the case. Everything escalates so quickly these days. Couple of chats, meet-ups... *BAM* steady, *BAM BAM* broken off.

It's crazy!

I always thought relationships were special, but what's it like now?

As much as it's a positive thing how technology does wonders these days, it's ruining so many traditions too.

Relationships these days are so much harder because of how conversations are made through texting, feelings are expressed through our updates on social platforms...

Tell me, how many fights and misunderstandings today are caused by all these indirect updates online? Stop writing your feelings down on Twitter, hoping your partner sees it! You've a phone, you've their number... Text/call them!

-

And due to how exposed all of us are to the Western culture, we tend to forget our values. I really hate how conservative we can be at times, but there's only so much you can do. As much as you'd love to walk out of the house without a bra, YOU CAN'T.

As much as you'd like to share about your sex-life with your parents, hoping they'd be open about you, YOU CAN'T.

As much as you yearn to make out in public, YOU CAN'T.

I've noticed how influenced my peers are towards all the Western values, talking about sex and whatsoever openly on Twitter... I'm definitely not trying to say that it's a bad thing. In fact, it's rather unpreventable in this society we are in today.

However, I'm just so upset to see how majority of the relationships now could only last for weeks.

You see them whining about how much they love and want someone for a week... Next thing you know? They are with someone new.

It's sad to see how people can get into a relationship, claim to love the other party, and still cheat. Stop being selfish and greedy. You can't have the best of both worlds, call it off if you can't stay faithful.

Works the same way for girls.

-

What I've to say to the girls,

For the guys,

Last but not least,
 Love isn't sex

Which boils down to the last thing I wish to address - Respect.

Besides, trust and honesty, it's important to always have mutual respect for each other.

Girls, respect his privacy. Yeah, if he has nothing to hide from his phone he shouldn't be afraid, but that doesn't give  you the rights to check it without his permission.

Guys, respect her body. If she feels like she's not rear, don't force her. As contradicting as we can be at time, when we say "NO," to these kinda things…. We mean business.

Don't offer your body to the guy you love, if he only offers his love to have your body.

.

.

.
